I am studying at a foreign medical school, and I want to enter the United States to take a clerkship. Is there a good visa status available, which suits this purpose?
A medical clerkship is only for medical students pursuing their normal third or fourth year internship in a U.S. medical school as part of their foreign medical school degree and with the approval of the foreign medical school. The clerkship offers practical experience and instruction in the various disciplines of medicine under the supervision of faculty physicians at a U.S. medical school's hospital. The clerkship has nothing to do with graduate medical training in the U.S, and it affords foreign medical students what is often their first opportunity to experience the American practice of medicine.
A good visa option for the medical clerkship is actually a B-1 classification, provided the physician meet the parameters above and receives NO remuneration from the U.S. medical school or its hospital.
